First ALTO procedure in the Western US performed at Heart Hospital

New Mexico Heart Institute/Lovelace Medical Group cardiovascular surgeons Steven Henao, M.D., Trent Profitt, M.D., and Richard Wilkerson, M.D. performed first ALTO procedure in the Western United States at Heart Hospital of New Mexico at Lovelace Medical Center on July 30. Heart Hospital of New Mexico at Lovelace Medical Center is now treating Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) patients with the new ALTO® Abdominal Stent Graft System, an Endovascular Aneurysm Repair (EVAR) device that was designed to treat a broader range of patients and their unique aneurysms. Ruptured AAAs are the 13th-leading cause of death in the United States, causing an estimated 15,000 deaths per year. Patients diagnosed with a AAA can be treated with open surgical repair or via a less invasive Endovascular Aneurysm Repair (EVAR). The ALTO graft is delivered utilizing the lowest profile delivery system commercially available and, unlike standard EVAR devices, it features an exclusive conformable sealing ring that molds in-situ to the patient’s specific aortic neck anatomy.
